Which Color?

A black and white world has its allure, as nuance, like freedom, involves responsibility, but black and white gets monotonous—and, besides, there are still more than fifty shades of grey.

Saying yes to color takes courage: Adobe RGB offers 16.7 million values, and Sherwin-Williams claims to have more than 1500 paint shades to apply to your walls. We wouldn’t slap them on all at once, though, would we? One at time seems doable.

When the kids and I visit Popham and venture into the Atlantic, we generally go pretty slowly at first: dip a toe, get used to the cold transferred from a few million water molecules now, then a few million more in a minute or two.

It works for the more nebulous stuff, too, like freedom, God, meaning. Just ask the first question. Let it lead you to the next. Ask another after that. Keep going, and don’t worry, the answer should always be just out of reach.
