A Story Told from Sanborn to Zusak

(Bookcase Inspiration)

Fools Crow about how they’re Educated, and it’s
within The Art of Possibility, but I wonder if
they’ve merely been indoctrinated at The Devil’s Pleasure Palace.
Might we be dealing with A Confederacy of Dunces, who
suspend Rules of Civility and build a Bridge of Clay, speaking
about Democracy in America, when we know it’s supposed to be
a constitutional republic?

Have we lost our Inheritance?
A Great Society is what we were promised,
but they gave us Perfume, and like so many Elements of Style,
it’s Mistborn: gone before the Blood and Thunder
of a Buffalo Afternoon make their way into your brain and
make the Official Stories shatter like a Glass Halo.

Suddenly, The Burden of Proof is on you,
so find some Theology and Sanity
and make it all make sense.

It won’t be easy, though—more like Writing the Australian Crawl,
and don’t forget, The Watcher of the Damned is off duty.
Like The Leveling Wind, he and Hamlet are gone. Look for them
in The Maine Woods. With luck you’ll find them:
a Storyteller and an Outcast, carrying a Sword of Honor and A Shield Ring.
They went looking for Redemption, A Thousand Acres, or The Prize promised
by one of the Chiefs, long before the The Death of Ivan Ilyich.

Just remember: The Age of Innocence got lost in a Maze of Blood,
so grab The Almanac of the Dead, Open Your Eyes, and let
The Muses Among Us lead you to The Blue Remembered Hills.

There, you might find God in the Gallery or on the roof with The Pigeon,
where they’re giving Breathing Lessons to The Princes in the Tower.
